Ford is the original adventure-loving alter crude off-roaders to make it better fit the way people actually use it always – as a grocery getter – not the way owners thought they might use them: to scale steep peaks. Rule number one in the industry nothing is “adapt or die.” That is why Ford Motor Co. is making once-unthinkable a few changes for next-generation version of the Ford Explorer SUV.
“When we’re working on this program we ask that our current Explorer owners,” Do you need the ability to go the way “and 100% said” Yes, yes, “said Jay Ward, a spokesman for Ford.” When we asked them, “How often do you go out?” 70% said ‘Never. ”
Thus, the new Explorer will maintain sufficient capacity to cover what most imagine when they think buyers will be “off-road,” which generally does not involve crawling on steep slopes or will fall on the stone. This will be perfect at home in the path of the wheel tread through the woods, however.
At the same time, it’s easier and better fuel to get around the city.
Not too long, Explorer is the most popular passenger vehicles in the United States whatsoever. Between 1995 and 2002, Ford sold an average of 412 000 persons per year, said Ford sales analyst George Pipas.
It was during the height of the SUV craze America when a truck-based SUVs are most of what is available. They also fit the American taste ‘at the time of cheap gasoline and people want the status and adventure.
Then, more fuel-efficient, smoother riding crossover SUV, a vehicle with car-like rather than engineering, such as trucks, is gaining popularity. So began the slide rapidly in sales of traditional truck-based SUVs and, perhaps most especially, Explorer. Ford Explorers sold only 52 000 years ago and 78 400 in 2008.

After receiving an undeniable message, the next Ford Explorer makes a crossover SUV based car. It will share the technique with the Ford Taurus sedan.
Ford Taurus technique seems quite versatile. This also underlies the Lincoln MKS sedan and Ford Flex and Lincoln MkT cross. That part of the attraction of car design based on Pipas said. Ford’s engineering investment can be spread over different vehicle again.
Part of the challenge in designing a new Explorer meeting the needs of owners while still allowing the original fantasy that makes them want the Explorer in the first place.
New Explorer will rise higher than the ground than the Flex and will have a dial that can be called a variety of suspension and setting all-wheel-drive for snow, sand and mud. This is similar to systems used on vehicles sold by Land Rover, the British SUV manufacturer that is owned, until recently, by Ford.
Lead engineer on the new Explorer, Jim Holland, also a chief engineer at Land Rover.
New Explorer will be offered with at least two engines, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and non-turbocharged EcoBoost V6. It is not clear, however, if the more powerful V6 EcoBoost expire will be offered. All versions of Explorer will have a six-speed automatic transmission.
The new Explorer is expected to hit the market this summer as 2011 models, said Ward.
For now, Ford is incredible secrets about the new Explorer. With only a few months before starting it again, Ford has released only a teaser “” picture where the front corner of the SUV seen in Dutch portraits.
Typically, such vehicles would have been inaugurated last month in one of the major auto shows, however, Ward said, with the Internet allows will launch the car everywhere in the world at the same time, Ford was no need to disclose Explorer early 2011.
